Have you ever wondered why you keep repeating past mistakes or just can’t let go of emotional baggage?
Or you might trapped in the same job or the same dysfunctional relationship, or even the same weight? Even though in the past you’ve said… “this time, it’s going to be different… no really, IT WILL BE DIFFERENT! I’m going after my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur! I’m going to change my life and create the life I deserve!!
But after a while, that damn repeat switch goes back on, doubt and fear creeps in, and you say to yourself, “who am I kidding; I’ll never get there,” and you just feel defeated?
The problem at this point is, you’ve read self-help books, taken workshops, and made New Year’s resolutions, and vowed to improve your life, only to realize a year later that your life is no better or even worse?
And the scary thing is when you’re 100 percent honest with yourself, you realize that if this continues, it’s going to get worse and the life you dream of, may never happen.
I felt the same way as you do today. I read self-help books, took workshops, and nothing worked until one day everything changed when I learnt the one key piece I was missing. Our brain is screwing us over because, it’s your brains job is to keep you surviving; your job is to expand consciousness and thrive.
That led me to mentors, and also, quantum mechanics, epigenetics and psychoneuroimmunology where I finally took my power and control back.
Here’s the thing; we have two gifts, an instinct to survive and an inherent ability to, perform and succeed. I call this the Balance of Power. The critical thing to realise is this; they are two completely different physiological responses that radically change how your brain and body functions AND your state of attraction and being.
The instinct to survive is a double-edged sword; it’s useful in the right context but, it’s destructive outside that context.
It does this by changing blood flow in the brain to critical regions of executive control in favor of reflexive emotional reactions without your awareness; it entirely changes the way your brain and body functions in a profoundly dysfunctionally manner outside the context of danger.
In this mode, it strengthens neural nets, creates new ones, not functional pathways either, and can change receptor sites to accommodate new levels of neuropeptides that bathe your cells. In the case of negative emotion, that ain’t good.
Now, psychoneuroimmunology says that every thought we have produces a biochemical reaction in the brain. These chemical signals (neuropeptides) enter the bloodstream and bind to receptor sites in the body where they act as messengers.
The thoughts you think, produce chemicals in the brain that allow your body to feel the way you’re thinking.
In a nutshell, every thought produces a chemical recipe that matches how you feel.
So when you think wonderful and inspiring thoughts about doing something exciting, you act and feel excited and inspired. The brain releases dopamine which turns the brain and body on in anticipation of this experience.
If you entertain anxious, guilty, frustrated, angry or thoughts, the brain sends neuropeptides into the body to respond and act in a similar way.
Now, we all think about 60 to 70 thousand thoughts a day and of those, 90% are the same as the day before, and that’s what scientists have measured. And they also say that 70% of those thoughts are unconscious and negative about the environment, ourselves and time.
So, what’s really happening?
90% of what happened yesterday, last week, last month, last year, is being attracted to you in a non-directional sequence giving the illusion of change, but it’s the same.
Ask yourself this question: is my life really any different than last year?
So, 90% of our thoughts are redundant, and from the past, that switches on behaviour, attitudes and program our state of attraction and state of being, neurologically and biologically. You see when you worry about some future experience or event, the brain wires in new neural nets that produce neuropeptides to emotionally feel your thoughts. Then the body re-calibrates itself (homeostasis) for the experience, and you’re most dominant thoughts to become your state of being and attraction.
How? Imagine for a moment that you feel guilty about one thing or another. A miscommunication, someone misplacing their frustration or their crap day on you or whatever but, your fault or not, you accept the blame. So most of the time you think, “it’s my fault,” and “I seem to always attract this crap into my life.”
Every time you think like that your cells swimming in this neuropeptide chemical sea, and when you’re cells divide at the end of their life; the receptor sites increase to accommodate the abundance of the recipe called guilt that your thoughts produce.
If high neuropeptide levels of guilt are maintained on a daily basis, then the cells innate intelligence says:
“Okay so, the dude upstairs keeps sending us these chemical feelings of guilt, and we cannot deal with them all because we don’t have enough receptor sites. We need to get the contractor in, (epigenetics) to change the gene readout and give us more receptor sites to accommodate this abundance of these guilt peptides. And then, he’ll feel the emotion quicker and more intense because we can deal with them faster. I mean, that is what he wants”. That’s up stream regulation.
And downstream is the opposite, the cell, especially nerve cells can’t handle the abundance of these peptides, so they scale down from the over stimulation. They make fewer receptor sites and some cells malfunction because they cannot process the flood peptides that are, in a sense, ganging up on them. The cells main role is to create more proteins and change the cell’s energy.
To recap, in upstream regulation the cell responds to the high demand by creating more receptor sites to perform better engaging the feedback loop between the mind and body, so you feel the way you’re thinking.
And in downstream regulation, especially nerve cells which help us react, they become desensitised. So over time cells need more peptides to reach the threshold of cellular activation, bring the body and mind online on a cellular level. In other words, we have to react more, worry more, or feel more about a thing to active that threshold so it takes a lot more “feelings” to motivate us.
This is the way the untrained mind works, unconsciously and on autopilot. This is the basis of addiction; you need more chemicals to reach the threshold of cellular activation, to reach the same level of mind or same familiar feeling. When someone takes cocaine, it releases vast quantities of dopamine, which gives the person an wonderful feeling of anticipatory pleasure. But it’s all for nothing because dopamine is an action driver, not pleasure chemical; it excites us to move towards what we perceive to be pleasurable.
So the untrained mind becomes hardwired neurologically and biologically to a new state of mind and attraction, and will attract more of the same. Does this start to sound like an addiction? Because it is, in the case of negative emotions, that ain’t good.
This is the balance of power, to survive or to thrive; and it’s the struggle we all face. You must learn how to identify the dysfunctional neural habits and then modify them both neurologically and biologically; and condition in new empowering replacements.
